Curcumin and Bioperine against chronic conditions and diseases

Turmeric is a species of plant (from which the most important spice Curcuma longa is extracted) known since ancient times for its medicinal properties to the point of receiving great interest from the medical and scientific world. Its beneficial characteristics derive from curcumin and other curcuminoids, polyphenols that help in the management of oxidative and inflammatory conditions, in the fight against metabolic syndrome and hyperlipidemia.

Most of its benefits (of curcumin) are due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and scientific research has shown that it can improve systemic markers of oxidative stress by eliminating various forms of free radicals. Due to its poor bioavailability, no major health benefits are derived from its ingestion as it is poorly absorbed by our body which provides for its rapid elimination.

For this reason, several proposals, currently on the market, have been devised which try to compensate for this evidence. One of these solutions consists of having identified a component that can increase the bioavailability of curcumin and its consequent absorption: Bioperine (an alkaloid, the main active component of black pepper).

Using both active ingredients in the formulation of a dietary supplement it is possible to obtain beneficial effects both in the prevention of inflammatory states and in the regulation of metabolic processes.

Curcumin, and curcuminoids in general, have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as “Generally Recognized As Safe” and clinical studies have shown excellent tolerability and safety profiles even at relatively high daily doses.

Even the EFSA (European Food and Safety Authority) has expressed itself favorably on the safety and efficacy of these active ingredients.

IPS – International Products and Services, with its Suractives® division, offers a wide range of products, including Curcumin + Bioperine, made with Miniactives® technology. This proprietary and patented technology allows to work of the active ingredients starting from the neutral nuclei of Sugar Spheres obtaining microparticles then individually coated by one or more layers of polymeric membranes, giving controlled release properties, favoring bioavailability and absorption.

Furthermore, the Miniactives® technology allows to perfectly mask the taste and smell of unpleasant ingredients and, thanks to its characteristics of granulometry and morphology of the product obtained, allows the active ingredients to spread evenly over the entire surface of the gastrointestinal tract.

IPS can produce Curcumin + Bioperine Miniactives® in formulations suitable for dosages in orodispersible sachets or aqueous suspensions, as well as single-dose bottles with measuring cap. Recently, IPS products have been developed to be able to produce highly disintegrating ODTs called SmarTTabs®.
