Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a molecule with characteristics similar to vitamins, with antioxidant properties that have led researchers to hypothesize its usefulness in restoring adequate levels of vitamins, in promoting the use of carbohydrates as a source of energy, in the prevention of cell damage or case of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.
This molecule performs numerous activities:
- direct antioxidants, protecting the body from free radical damage,
- indirect antioxidants, allowing the regeneration of moleculessuch as vitamin C, vitamin E, Coenzyme Q10, and Glutathione,
- metabolic, optimizing the oxidative process of sugars and in some cases resulting in a body weight loss in case of overweight,
- chelators, helping to expel heavy metalssuch as lead and mercury,
- inhibition of the oxidation of LDL lipoproteins(one of the main risk factors for the formation of atherosclerotic plaques).
Studies conducted on the biological activity of Alpha-Lipoic Acid, highlight its significant beneficial potential in the case of diabetic and cardiovascular diseases.
Despite its hypoglycemic action, some clinical trials have shown how its use can contribute to the reduction of the typical symptoms of neuropathy, especially in the presence of paresthesia and burning in the limbs.
IPS – International Products and Services, through its Suractives® division, can supply Alpha-Lipoic Acid made by the proprietary and patented technology called MATRIS®: a production method that allows the active ingredients to be processed into microparticles, which are then individually coated by one or more layers of polymeric membranes, giving controlled release and taste masking properties.
Depending on the type of membrane used and the processing of the particles, it is possible to perfectly mask the taste and smell of unpleasant ingredients, as well as establishing controlled release conditions to promote absorption along the entire gastro-enteric tract of the body.
Granulometry and morphology of the product are obtained to allow the active ingredients to spread evenly over the entire surface of the gastrointestinal tract with consequent optimal absorption of the active ingredients.
IPS can produce Alpha-Lipoic Acid in various formulations, RETARD with release up to 8 hours or FAST, suitable for dosages for orodispersible sachets, tablets, aqueous suspensions, or single-dose bottles with measuring cap.
