Acetyl L-Carnitine HCI is a molecule obtained through an esterification process of L-Carnitine with an acetyl group, also known as Acetylcarnitine or ALC.
It is used, in the form of a supplement, for its antioxidant activity, especially in the cardiological, neurological, and anti-aging fields thanks to its biological role: in addition to being a mitochondrial transporter of fatty acids (essential for supporting the beta-oxidation process), supports the synthesis of acetylcholine (an important neurotransmitter, often compromised in neuro-psychiatric pathologies), reduces the formation of glycosylation products and controls cell apoptosis. It plays a vital role in repairing the damaged nerve.
Recent studies conducted on Alzheimer’s patients have demonstrated its role in delaying the progression of the disease by controlling important cognitive functions such as logical intelligence, verbal memory, and selective attention.
The possibility of preventing and treating Alzheimer’s disease is one of the challenges of modern research that is focusing precisely on the increasingly frequent use of a supplement based on Acetyl L-Carnitine HCI thanks to its activity on cholinergic neural transmission, and the ability to improve the neuronal metabolism of mitochondria.
However, the processing and industrial processability of this raw material is anything but simply due to the lack of fluidity in the mixing and packaging phases of the administration forms.
IPS, through its Suractives® division specialized in the processing of nutraceutical active ingredients, is able to supply Acetyl L-Carnitine HCI MATRIS® using a proprietary and patented technology. This special formulation is characterized by a higher fluidity making this semi-finished product an ideal ingredient for industrial processing.
Furthermore, the MATRIS® Technology provides that the active ingredients are divided into microparticles covered individually by one or more layers of polymeric membranes: in this way it is possible to reach very high titre of active ingredients (up to 80%), to obtain perfect masking of particularly unpleasant smells and tastes, and establish, a priori, the conditions of controlled release to maximize efficacy and absorption.
The particular feature of the obtained product, is to allow the active ingredients to spread quickly and uniformly over the entire surface of the gastrointestinal tract, maximizing the effectiveness of the product intended for the consumer.
IPS products made using MATRIS® technology are suitable for various forms of administration such as orodispersible sachets, aqueous suspensions, single-dose bottles with measuring cap, and tablets.
