Berberine: an effective natural ally against cholesterol

Berberine is an ammonium salt that belongs to the group of benzylisoquinoline alkaloids, capable of providing excellent properties for our body when properly supplemented.

It has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and protective properties for our cardiovascular system. According to scientific research, it could have excellent inhibitory effects on the proliferation of cancer cells (especially in the case of breast and liver cancer) as well as a hypoglycemic action: the studies conducted on patients with type 2 diabetes show that berberinecan act at the receptor level by increasing the expression of insulin receptors, reducing insulin resistance.

BERBERINE AGAINST CHOLESTEROL

In recent years, research has been moving towards these beneficial properties against cholesterol, up to the point of hypothesizing its possible use as a natural alternative to statins.

We are talking about an active mainly present in the barks, with an intense yellow color and strong bitter taste that is decidedly unpleasant for oral intake: for this reason, in IPS International Products and Services, through the Suractives® division, we have developed its specific formulation through the use of the patented Miniactives® Technology which allows the processing of nutraceutical active ingredients starting from the neutral nuclei of Sugar Spheres.

This process allows to completely mask both odors and particularly unpleasant flavors while maintaining the time of their absorption unchanged: in this way, the finished product will be usable even by those who do not like strong flavors. Depending on the type of membrane used to coat the active ingredient particles, it is also possible to establish controlled release conditions to promote absorption along the entire gastrointestinal tract of the body.

Thanks to the peculiar particle size distribution, achievable with the Miniactives® technology, it is possible to produce various dosage forms of food supplements, perfectly tasteless and/or controlled release, such as water-dispersible and/or oral-dispersible single-dose sachets, special tablets High-dose “reservoirs”, single-dose bottles with measuring cap and high-dose hard gelatin capsules, impossible to obtain with traditional technologies.

Thanks to the possibility of modulating the release of the active ingredients using the Miniactives® Technology, it is possible to create formulations that are less dependent on subjective factors that influence the absorption of the active ingredients such as pH, gastrointestinal motility, and the presence of food in the gastrointestinal tract.

All these added values to berberine make it possible to formulate food supplements characterized by very high quality, efficacy, and absorbability of the finished product.
