On caffeine and its effects on the body: what are the interactions? Here is the latest news.

Caffeine is a stimulating alkaloid substance that acts on the receptors of our body, responsible for regulating the functions of the nervous system, the endocrine system, and the cardiovascular system.

Caffeine is commonly used to improve mental alertness but, actually, numerous scientific researches have proven its effectiveness in many other areas of use: for example, it is commonly used in combination with ergotamine for the treatment of migraines or in combination with pain-relieving molecules to prevent and treat headaches after epidural anaesthesia.

It can also be used in some preparations aimed at treating tiredness and sleepiness.

Furthermore, recent research has shown how an appropriate amount of caffeine may be able to increase attention and alertness, even going so far as to improve reasoning speed and short-term memory. This effect would derive from the interaction of this molecule with the adenosine receptors in the brain, also slowing down the mental decline that occurs with aging.

Also, from a study conducted at Johns Hopkins University, a dose of caffeine after a study session can help strengthen long-term memory as well.

Furthermore, caffeine also contains a good concentration of polyphenol antioxidants able to counteract damage from free radicals, and it is hypothesized that, with prolonged consumption, the risk of developing Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease can be reduced.

IPS, through its Suractives® division, specialized in the processing of ingredients aimed at the production of food supplements, can supply Caffeine made through the patented M.A.T.R.I.S.® Technology, a production method that allows the active substances to spread quickly and uniformly over the entire surface of the gastrointestinal tract by optimizing its absorption. In particular, the CAFFEINE MATRIS® RETARD thanks to its controlled release profile and the particle coating membrane allows for pH-independent absorption of the active ingredient along the entire gastro-enteric tract.

M.A.T.R.I.S.® also allows you to obtain perfect masking of the taste and odour to make the product usable even by those who cannot stand strong odours or flavours.

With this production method, it is possible to reach high concentrations of active substances and the processed ingredients can be used as a basis for the production of oral dosage forms such as capsules, tablets, single-dose sachets, suspensions, and single-dose vials.
